TX Georgetown

Georgetown is located in Williamson County on Interstate Highway 35 and the San Gabriel River. It was founded in 1848 and named for George Washington Glasscock, who, with his partner, Thomas B. Huling, donated land for the site. Pioneers were attracted by the abundance of timber and good, clear water, as were the Tonkawa Indians, who had a village there. In addition, the land was inexpensive and extremely fertile. Whether you are looking to play your day away or get cozy for a date night, the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas has the perfect itinerary for you. Make a splash in Lake Georgetown or toast the weekend at another one of our favorite watering holes. From young to young at heart the City of Georgetown can keep you living, loving and exploring from play days to date nights. The 2016 Census estimate has Georgetown having a population of 63,716. It is 30 miles North of Austin and home of the Southwestern University, the oldest university in Texas, founded in 1840.
